In 1999, the dance academy was founded together with the German specialist for travelling in Cuba avenTOURa GmbH, the UNEAC (an artists’ organization) and some professional dancers of the Cuban Television Ballet and other ensembles. These excellent dancers and the professionally-run management assure dance lessons of a very high standard and the classes are good fun. The Academia Salsa Alegre is as good as its name: you will learn a lot and also have a lot of fun!

The dance lessons in the Academia Salsa Alegre take place in a room of 130m2, on the first floor of a restored building, about 300m from the sea avenue “Malecon“ right in the old town (Habana Vieja). If weather conditions permit, the lessons can take place partly in the garden, where you can also have a rest during breaks.

The so-called “Cuban Style“ is the most important dance taught in the academy. That Cuban dance style distinguishes more through improvisation and spontaneity, fun and joy of living and less through fixed rules. The movements are natural, harmonic and focus on the hip rotations. Compared to the North American salsa dance styles they are a bit slower and more fluent.

Apart from Salsa, other typical cuban dances such as Son, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha etc. can be tought as well.

Each student dances with a partner from the team of the Academia Salsa Alegre. Due to the professional ability and experience of the instructors, they are able to evaluate the level of the students rapidly and encourage fast advancement in the courses.

After a while the teacher always introduces new movements which will be repeated and practiced with a dance partner. This method means that people with different levels can dance within the same group (usually 4-8 students).
You don’t have to speak Spanish in order to participate the classes. The dance instructors and some of the dance partners speak a little English. Many movement are tought by showing them directly to you.

You will dance to Cuban music and become familiar with the most important songs of the Cuban charts – songs from Los Van Van, Manolito, Charanga Habanera etc. You will surely get the Salsa fever and will dance the whole night through to those songs in the disco. Top

The course starts every Monday (other dayw on inquiry). The lessons are from 3pm to 5 pm, Mondays – Fridays. A complete course is 1 working week (5 days) with 10 dance lessons in total. At the end of the course, every students receives a diploma.

Individual tuition is also possible.
